New Years is another holiday that is often difficult for people. It’s the end of a year that might have been filled with mental health challenges (or other health challenges), loss of relationships and feelings of isolation.
Wherever you are – you are. Stay compassionate with yourself. Stop judging yourself. Stop telling yourself that by now I “should” not be feeling what I am feeling. Instead, feel what you are feeling. Open yourself to that. Allow that. Let the healing begin and remember that the healing is in the feeling.
Thinking back over the past decade, feelings of gratitude fill my heart as I reflect on my mental health journey as compared to the previous decade.
|2000 – 2009||vs||2010 – 2019|
|Number of hospitalizations:||4||vs||0|
|Time spent depressed:||40 months||vs||20 months|
|Number of suicide attempts:||1||vs||0|
|Number of psychotic manic episodes:||4||vs||0|
|Number of books written on mental health:||0||vs||3|
The most important thing you have is your health – it is not your money, wealth, influence, connections or contacts. I have much to be thankful for. I have a family that loves me deeply. I have a few close friends that I consider family. I have a career that allows me to support others on the path to pursue better health for themselves – whether they are suicidal, psychotic, anxious, wanting to conceive, would like to lose weight, stop binging and purging or simply want to maintain good health. At the heart of what I do is (and always will be) relationships. I am so thankful for each and every patient that I have chosen me as their Naturopathic doctor. This coming decade I will celebrate 20 years as a Naturopathic Doctor. I am humbled and honoured for the trust you have given me in the past decade, and I am hopeful that 2020 will bring so much more. More compassion, more community, more consideration for what is the most valuable in life.
I invite you to take some time reflecting on the past decade. Ask yourself…
- What have I learnt over the past decade?
- What am I most grateful for in the past decade?
- What am I most proud of in the last decade?
- What relationships have I developed, fostered and let go?
- What are the goals I have for my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health?
What I’ve learnt over the past decade is to keep my heart open, to look inwards when I want to project outwards, and to always give it up to grace and God for guidance. Bring on the new decade, and I invite you to journey with me. Remember you are worthy, you are loved and you deserve to be healthy. If you have any questions or require my assistance, I am here to help you on your health journey. I am available for one-on-one appointments and have my Moving Beyond Coaching available for those wanting to reclaim their mental health. ❤️❤️❤️
